Sleep Dentistry

A lot of people have a fear of dentists or at least feel some anxiety before going to the dentist. If that sounds like you, we have a solution for you: sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry. Your dentist can put you under a general anaesthetic while your dental work is done. This is relaxing and you will feel no pain.

Who can Have Sleep Dentistry?

Anyone who doesn’t have a health issue contraindicating sleep dentistry can have it done. There are numerous reasons why people fear the dentist. Some have painful or sensitive teeth. Some have complicated dental issues. Often, people had traumatic dental experiences with “old school” dentists when they were children. Sometimes, there is no specific reason; a person just has a phobia against going to the dentist.

The unfortunate consequence for many is a pattern of neglecting dental issues until they require emergency dentistry. Then, the person waits until something else “goes bad” to a point where they have to have it treated. This keeps them from the regular treatment they so badly need.

With sleep dentistry, you don’t need to fear going to the dentist anymore. You walk into our office, sit down, go to sleep and the work is done when you wake up.

What is Sleep Dentistry?

Sleep dentistry is the most advanced form of sedation dentistry. We administer either an intravenous sedation or general anaesthetic that puts you to sleep. Then, while you are sleeping, we complete your dental procedures. All anaesthetic treatments are administered by a professional, registered anaesthetist. You are monitored at all times throughout the treatment to ensure that your anaesthesia is at the appropriate level. Intravenous sedation are done in the comfort of our own rooms and general anaesthetics are performed at Glengarry hospital.
